Why Hulme

Facilities

New Science Centre

Hulme was honoured to have one of the world’s leading surgeons open our new £500,000 Science Centre in 2017. Dr David Nott, an old boy, opened the two storey facility. The newly refurbished centre is home to the Chemistry and Physics departments and houses six laboratories as well as preparation and storage rooms. The centre is a fantastic addition to our facilities where science is taught to all ages.

Brierley Art Studio

This wonderful new building has already enhanced the art experience of the pupils and is a superb addition to the range of facilities at Hulme. Four spacious teaching studios on two floors with facilities for printmaking, ceramics, film and animation as well as painting and drawing, form the main part of the building. In addition, there is a sixth form studio which offers an excellent gallery exhibition space. The building has a light and airy contemporary feel to it and both floors have full disabled access and facilities.

Swimming Pool

The Swimming pool at Hulme is conveniently located behind the Hulme Court building next to the Sports Hall. It is a fantastic on site facility that is used by all age sections of the schools; from Infants right up to Seniors.

The pool is just short of 20 metres and has 4 lanes and is ideal for use in lessons and for club use. Although we do not have a viewing gallery, there is enough room on poolside for a few spectators at our junior galas.

Centenary Library/Learning Hub

The Centenary Library opened in 1997 and has been designed and built to reflect the changing needs of pupils who require information in a wide range and variety of formats. It complements the advances made throughout the school to equip pupils for the challenges of higher education and employment and to prepare them to become adult citizens in the new millennium.

Reading is a life skill and we aim to encourage pupils to use the library from their first days at Hulme. Lower school pupils have a designated section of the library which is home to both fiction and non fiction books.

From September 2022 work will have been completed transforming the library into the Learning Hub. This space will be somewhere the students can come to collaborate and work on projects together, utilising virtual and physical components. A place for private and group study, with events being held throughout the year promoting a variety of celebration and national days.

Sports Hall

The Sports Hall comfortably houses four badminton courts. It also has a basketball court with two mini courts going across. There is a full sized netball court and volleyball court, along with facilities for table tennis and indoor athletics.

The Sports Hall is used by the whole school as well as external agencies such as Oldham Athletic, Oldham Netball and Werneth Cricket Club.

Computer Science Suite

Within the senior schools there are four computer science rooms with 20 PC’s in each. Each of these is networked to the central server and used by all pupils throughout the schools, both during lessons as well as in their free time.

Chromebooks are now being used across the school and we have recently achieved Google Reference Status.
