Science Centre

Hulme was honoured to have one of the world’s leading surgeons open our £500,000 Science Centre in 2017. Dr David Nott, an old boy, opened the two storey facility. The newly refurbished centre is home to the Chemistry and Physics departments. The centre houses six laboratories, as well as preparation and storage rooms. The centre is a fantastic addition to our facilities where science is taught to all ages.

Brierley Art Studio

This wonderful building has already enhanced the art experience of the pupils and is a superb addition to the range of facilities at Hulme. Four spacious teaching studios on two floors with facilities for printmaking, ceramics, film and animation as well as painting and drawing, form the main part of the building. In addition, there is a sixth form studio which offers an excellent gallery exhibition space. The building has a light and airy contemporary feel to it and both floors have full disabled access and facilities.

Swimming Pool

The Swimming pool at Hulme is conveniently located behind the Hulme Court building next to the Sports Hall, and underwent a refurbishment in 2023. It is a fantastic on site facility, used by all age sections of the schools; from Infants right up to Seniors.

Whilst the pool is just short of 20 metres and has 4 lanes, it is ideal for use in lessons and for club use. Although we do not have a viewing gallery, there is enough room on poolside for a few spectators at our junior galas.

The Winfield Library

At Hulme, we strongly believe that reading is a fundamental skill that every student should cultivate. That’s why we encourage our pupils to use the library from their very first day with us. The benefits of reading are vast and long-lasting, from enhancing vocabulary and comprehension skills to developing critical thinking, empathy, creativity, and imagination. Through reading, students can discover new cultures, places, and ideas, embracing the diverse community of HGS. Our Prep School pupils have access to their own library facilities, which help us nurture a passion for reading from the very beginning.

Our Centenary Library, opened in 1997, was designed to meet the changing needs of pupils who required information in various formats. It was a testament to our commitment to equipping students for higher education and employment, as well as preparing them to become responsible citizens in the new millennium.

In 2023, the library underwent a significant transformation and became the Winfield Library. As a Google Reference school, we embrace technological advancements and continuously update our library to meet the evolving needs of our students. The Winfield Library has become an interactive and dynamic learning environment, perfect for studying and discovering new books.

Our library offers a wide range of books on various topics, including science, history, fiction, and poetry. We also provide access to online resources to enhance the learning experience. Our library team are always available to help students find the resources they need and provide guidance on how to use them effectively.

Sports Hall

The Sports Hall comfortably houses four badminton courts. It also has a basketball court with two mini courts going across. There is a full sized netball court and volleyball court, along with facilities for table tennis and indoor athletics.

The Sports Hall is used by the whole school, as well as external agencies such as Oldham Athletic, Oldham Netball and Werneth Cricket Club.

Computer Science Suite

Within the senior schools there are four computer science rooms with 20 PC’s in each. Each of these is networked to our central server and used by all pupils throughout the schools, both during lessons as well as in their free time.

Chromebooks are now being used across the school and we hold a Google Reference Status.
