Sixth Form Curriculum
Most sixth form students will take four AS level subjects of their choice and maybe Critical Thinking in addition. Occasionally students will take three AS levels. In the second year of the sixth form the majority of students will take three subjects on to A2 plus General Studies to at least AS level with a few students taking four A2 subjects, after giving due consideration to the workload involved. Some Year 13 students also take Critical Thinking to A2.
AS and A2 work makes significantly more demands than does GCSE. Students will need to develop their independent learning skills and powers of analysis and evaluation. They will be assimilating substantial quantities of detailed information. Such intellectual growth is challenging and makes achievements at this level immensely rewarding.
Students are closely monitored, with subject teachers commenting every half term on their progress. This information is sent home to parents as a set of assessment grades. In the latter part of the Autumn term of both years 12 and 13, parents receive an interim report, including information on quality of academic work and effort made. In the Spring/early Summer term, parents receive a full report on each subject studied at AS level in Year 12 or at A2 in Year 13.
